Julietta Suzuki returns with the Otaku Vampire's Love Bite anime after 11 years
The Kamisama Kiss author confirms the TV adaptation of her vampire manga and shows a first video teaser.
Julietta Suzuki, the creator of Kamisama Kiss, has an anime in the works again. Eleven years have passed since that romantic fantasy, and now her latest manga, Otaku Vampire's Love Bite, has confirmed it will get a TV adaptation. The announcement comes with a first trailer and a promotional poster.
Suzuki started publishing this story in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine in 2022. Four years later, the franchise makes the jump to anime. Viz Media, which already publishes the manga volumes in English, will also handle the anime license for that market when it airs.
Promotional poster for the Otaku Vampire's Love Bite anime. There isn't much more concrete info yet. The production hasn't announced a release window, studio, technical staff, or voice cast. All that's known is that it exists and that Viz Media will distribute it in English. It's an early announcement, the kind that serves to gauge fans' temperature and little else.
An otaku vampire and a neighbor with irresistible blood
The story follows Hina, a vampire who spent decades locked away before moving to Japan to devote herself entirely to her geeky hobbies. When she meets her neighbor Kyuta, she discovers he looks suspiciously like her favorite character, the one she's obsessed with. And there's another detail: Kyuta's blood is irresistible to vampires, which causes them to start swarming around him and unleashes all sorts of absurd situations.
The premise mixes romantic comedy with supernatural touches, a territory Suzuki already explored successfully in Kamisama Kiss. That series remains one of the most remembered romantic fantasies of the 2010s and can still be watched on platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix. If the new anime manages to capture that same vibe, it has a good chance of working.
A different angle within the vampire genre
Vampire anime with romantic entanglements are plentiful. What sets Otaku Vampire's Love Bite apart from most is its protagonist: a self-proclaimed otaku who pursues her hobbies without hang-ups. That starting point allows for romantic misunderstandings and absurd situations that don't rely solely on the tormented vampire cliché.
The most important thing is still missing: when it airs. The announcement makes it clear the project is underway, but we'll have to wait for the production to reveal the studio, cast, and date. For now, the trailer and the poster are the only proof that Hina and Kyuta will soon make the jump to the screen.
