Mashle: Magic and Muscles gets a live-action movie in March 2027

Weekly Shonen Jump has confirmed that Mashle: Magic and Muscles is heading to the big screen with a live-action movie. The Japanese release date is set: March 19, 2027. The announcement comes as a surprise and makes it clear that the franchise is still very much alive even though Hajime Komoto's original manga ended a few years ago.

The project is overseen by Warner Bros. Japan and Fuji TV, with studio CREDEUS handling production. If that name sounds familiar, it's because they've worked on several manga and anime adaptations: the Golden Kamuy movies, Kingdom, Sakamoto Days, and Under Ninja.

Distribution in Japan is handled by TOHO, but nothing has been announced yet about the cast or the technical team. There are also no confirmed plans for an international release, so we'll have to wait and see if it reaches theaters outside Japan.

A parody of magic schools

For those unfamiliar with the series, Mashle: Magic and Muscles is the manga by Hajime Komoto that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump. The story follows Mash Burnedead, a kid without a shred of magic in a world where everyone uses it. His solution is as simple as it is effective: muscles. Lots of muscles. It's a direct parody of magic school stories, which is why it's often compared to Harry Potter.

The comparison is quite fitting right now, because Warner Bros. is also preparing the new generation of the boy wizard saga. There's no official connection, but the source itself points out that fans will be able to directly compare both adaptations when they arrive.

The anime's third season arrives in January

If you prefer the anime, there's good news: the third season is already on the way. MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES The Tri-Magicathlon Divine Visionary Final Exam Arc will premiere in January 2027 as part of the winter season, although a specific date hasn't been confirmed yet.

The first two seasons are available on Crunchyroll, and the new one will be there too when it airs. It's the ideal platform to catch up before the movie arrives, because Mashle's mix of action and comedy works really well in anime form. We'll see if that energy translates just as well to live-action.
