Hotaru no Yomeiri Jumps to Live Action in 2027 via Fuji TV
The Japanese network announces the adaptation with a promotional video, just as the anime premieres today.
Fuji TV announced this Saturday the live-action adaptation of Hotaru no Yomeiri (Firefly Wedding), the manga by Oreco Tachibana. The series will premiere on the Japanese network in 2027, though there is no specific date or confirmed cast yet.
The announcement comes with a promotional video and coincides with a perfect moment for the franchise: the anime by David Production premieres today, October 9, with Crunchyroll streaming it in simulcast with English subtitles.
The series began in January 2023 on the MangaONE platform and has become one of the most followed historical romances of the moment. Volume 12 went on sale on June 19, and volume 13—which will be the last—arrives on October 19.
A Love Story Born from a Lie
The plot follows Satoko, the eldest daughter of the honorable Kirigaya family, a beautiful and elegant young woman who has rejected all marriage proposals due to a heart condition she keeps secret. Even so, she wants to find a husband to reassure her father.
Everything goes wrong when a group of mercenaries kidnaps her. Among them is Shinpei Gotou, a legendary assassin tasked with executing her. Satoko tries to bribe him, but it doesn't work. With no other options, she bets everything on one card: she fakes love at first sight and asks him to marry her.
Gotou accepts and swears to protect her. From there, the pair flee together while Satoko tries to keep up the charade and understand who the man she ran off with really is. A starting point that mixes tension, humor, and a romance that progresses amid lies.
A Manga That Keeps Growing
Tachibana's manga already has 12 volumes published in Japan and will conclude with the 13th, which comes out in just ten days. In English, Comikey began publishing it in June 2023 and Viz Media licensed it in May 2024; the seventh volume was released on July 14 and the eighth is scheduled for October 13.
With the anime just premiered and the live-action on the way, Hotaru no Yomeiri is at its peak. It's a case similar to other works that jump from manga to anime and live-action in a very short time, riding the momentum of the story and its lead couple.
We'll have to see who plays Satoko and Gotou in the Fuji TV version. For now, the network hasn't revealed anything about the cast or the team. Will you give the anime a chance while we wait for more news on the live-action? Tell us in the comments what you think of this double leap for the series.
