Takara Tomy reveals the TOYRISE Ryujinmaru from Mashin Hero Wataru for May 2027

The 9,900 yen articulated figure includes a miniature Wataru that pays homage to the 1988 kit.

Takara Tomy announced the release of the TOYRISE Ryujinmaru, an articulated figure of the Mashin from Mashin Hero Wataru that will go on sale in late May 2027. The suggested price is 9,900 yen with tax included.

The piece belongs to TOYRISE, T-SPARK's line of completed robots, Takara Tomy's high-end hobby brand. And this is not just any release: the Ryujinmaru is the personal Mashin of the Savior, Wataru Ikusabe, and inside it carries the Soul of the Golden Dragon, one of the Seven Dragon Gods of Shinbu that protect Soukaizan.

For those who don't know the series, Mashin Hero Wataru is a classic from the late eighties. The design of the Ryujinmaru came from a clay sculpture made by Wataru himself, and that's where that mix of imposing robot and artisanal touch comes from, which sets it apart from other mecha of the era.

Modern articulation, classic anime silhouette

The figure is based on the original anime model sheets, with a finish that respects the sharp head and stylized armor of the eighties design. The color scheme takes cues from both the anime and the vintage toys: the golden areas of the head, the dragon emblems on the shoulders, and the Touryuken sword are molded in yellow plastic, not painted.

That detail matters. In Takara's classic toys, the yellow of the plastic was part of the charm, and here it remains as a nod. Along with the main figure comes a miniature Wataru Ikusabe, molded entirely in yellow and with compact old-school proportions. It's a direct homage to the little figure included in the 1988 Mashin Collection No. 01 Ryujinmaru model kit.

But don't expect a static display piece. The TOYRISE Ryujinmaru has a range of motion designed for action poses: the legs open wide from the hip, the armor plates on the sides of each foot tip open outward, and the shoulders use a sliding articulation system forward and backward that greatly expands the reach of the arms.

The sword and the Ryujinmaru's poses

With the included Touryuken, the figure allows you to recreate several scenes from the anime: the motion of drawing the sword from the back, wide slashing attacks, or the finishing move with the sword raised overhead in both hands. It's not just articulation for the sake of adding joint points; it's designed so the character's poses come out naturally.

In the series, the Ryujinmaru learns new techniques with each battle, in addition to the already known Touryuken and Ryugaken. When Kujinmaru appears, both can combine and compensate for one of the Ryujinmaru's few weaknesses: its inability to fight in the air. It's also one of the few Mashin that talks and acts on its own, plays rock-paper-scissors, uses pro wrestling moves, and speaks all the regional dialects of Soukaizan.

The figure arrives in late May 2027. Will you go for this Ryujinmaru or wait to see what else T-SPARK puts out? Tell us in the comments.
