Four Anpanman breads hit convenience stores in Korea
Sanli launches a line with calcium and collectible zodiac stamps
Sanli announced on November 3 the launch of four breads in collaboration with Anpanman, which will be sold at convenience stores and supermarkets nationwide. Each product contains added calcium and randomly includes one of 100 zodiac stamps featuring characters from the franchise.
The line leans on the character's generational pull. Anpanman has been embedded in Japanese children's culture for decades, and its presence in South Korea is not new: Sanli had already used its image in the chestnut and red bean bread and the curry steamed bread.
The breads from the Sanli and Anpanman collaboration. The four products have different profiles. The sugar bread with cream has white cream sauce; the curry bread includes curry ingredients; the strawberry and red bean bread mixes strawberry jam with red bean; and the apple bread adds apple cream.
Calcium and collectible stamps
The added calcium targets a broad audience, not just children. A Sanli representative put it plainly: "We prepared products that make use of the Anpanman character, loved by all generations, and that add calcium so people of all ages can enjoy them."
The collection mechanic reinforces the strategy. One hundred different zodiac stamps distributed at random invite repeat purchases, a classic format in children's character merchandising.
The company plans to release more Anpanman products within this same month.
