The US nail polish brand Mooncat announced a collaboration with Death Note to celebrate the manga's 20th anniversary. The collection launches today, October 30, 2026, and brings nine polishes with special effects inspired by the series' dark atmosphere, its supernatural elements, and its characters.

Mooncat is an indie brand founded in 2021, known for collaborations with fictional worlds like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Star Wars. Now it's the Death Note universe's turn, and they're going all in: it's not a single polish with a logo slapped on, but a full line designed from the visual palette of the manga and anime.

Nine shades with their own names

The collection includes the following shades:

  • Misa Misa
  • Rem's Requiem
  • Mourning Rain
  • Shinigami Realm
  • God of the New World
  • Sunset Over Tokyo
  • Gods of Death Love Apples
  • Sugarfuel Brain Calories
  • Ryuk Was Bored

Each polish has unique effects and intense colors. The bottles come with matte black caps, a detail that reinforces the aesthetic of the supernatural notebook. For those who want the full collection, there's a limited edition box set for $158 that includes all nine polishes and an exclusive sticker set.

Michelle Lin, founder of Mooncat and a self-declared Death Note fan, explained that the collaboration came from the series' distinctive visual style and its dark color palette. It shows in the choice of names: there are direct references to Misa Amane, the shinigami Rem, the apples Ryuk loves so much, and the phrase Light Yagami repeats most often.

Death Note was published in Weekly Shonen Jump between 2003 and 2006. The anime adaptation was handled by Madhouse and aired between 2006 and 2007. In the United States, the series is available on Hulu and Disney+.

The official synopsis introduces Light Yagami, a brilliant student who finds a notebook dropped by a shinigami. If you write a person's name in it, that person dies. Light decides to use that power to eliminate the world's criminals, until the police send the legendary detective L to catch him.
