Toyotarou draws Garana and fuels theories about the Dragon Ball Super remake
The character who dies in chapter 4 of the manga and triggers the Golden Frieza saga returns to the spotlight with a new illustration by the author
Toyotarou has published a new illustration of Garana in his series Toyotarou Tries to Draw. The character, exclusive to the Dragon Ball Super manga, appears at the end of the Beerus saga and dies at the hands of Champa in chapter 4. His death is the trigger that leads Sorbet to search for the Dragon Balls and revive Frieza, which kicks off the Golden Frieza saga.
The drawing comes while Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the animated remake that adapts that arc, is in production. The choice of character doesn't seem random: Garana only had a few pages on paper, but his narrative function is key within the arc. The illustration reads as a nod to the animation team, who could expand his role on screen.
A supporting character with more theories than minutes in the manga
Garana is one of those characters the fandom turns into an object of speculation despite his brief time in the story. Dying in chapter 4 and still making headlines years later is impressive. Toyotarou draws him with care and half the fandom already imagines him with his own arc, transformation, and even a collectible figure.
In canon, the character still doesn't say much. But that matters little when a sketch is enough to start the theory machine. The piece also reinforces the author's interest in rescuing minor supporting characters from the original manga, a constant in his work leading the series.
His death is the trigger that leads Sorbet to search for the Dragon Balls and revive Frieza.
With the remake of the Beerus saga underway, the illustration feeds the possibility that Garana might have more presence in the animated version.
