Tsunami Umino turns her one-shot Omiai Tantei Katabiranotsuji Nagi into a series

The Full-Time Wife Escapist author expands her detective story in December

Juan Castillo 31 October 2026

Tsunami Umino will launch a new series in December. The author of The Full-Time Wife Escapist expands her one-shot Omiai Tantei Katabiranotsuji Nagi, the detective story she published as a short piece, and turns it into a regular serialization in the magazine of the publisher that puts out her works.

The premise mixes criminal investigation with a love-advice column: a detective thrown into the world of omiai, Japanese arranged marriage meetings. It is not your typical detective story, and that works in its favor.

From one-shot to series: what changes

Going from a short story to a regular serialization is not just stretching pages. Umino has to expand the universe, build story arcs that hold up chapter after chapter, and set a release pace that works in the magazine format.

The original story serves as a base, but the author will have to add subplots and flesh out the characters. The publisher is betting on a project with a foundation already tested among readers: the one-shot worked, and now it is time to see if it holds up in the long format.

A safe bet for December

Umino comes to this project after the success of the TV adaptations of her works. The Full-Time Wife Escapist put her on the map of contemporary manga, and this new series arrives in the magazine that already publishes her work.

The question is how many cases of suspicious marriages the protagonist can solve before the formula runs dry. But the publisher already has its bet for December, and Umino has proven material. The one-shot showed signs of life; now it is time to see if the series keeps up the pace.
