Lucca Comics & Games closes its 60th anniversary with 800,000 visitors and a tribute to Go Nagai

The Diamond Edition of Lucca Comics & Games ended with 800,000 visitors over the five days of the festival. The 2026 edition celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Italian event and left a tribute to Go Nagai, the announcement of a permanent museum, and the dates for the next edition.

The organizers confirmed that Lucca Comics & Games 2027 will take place from October 28 to November 1. This year's edition brought together more than 900 international guests, 800 exhibitors, 14 exhibitions, and over 1,500 activities.

One of the central moments was the tribute to Go Nagai, who received the Yellow Kid – Master of Comics award. The prize recognizes his impact on manga and anime, as well as his role as a bridge between Eastern tradition and Western storytelling. Among the works highlighted was his comic adaptation of the Divine Comedy.

During the festival, Italian Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, president of the Tuscany region Eugenio Giani, and mayor of Lucca Mario Pardini signed an agreement to create the Foundation that will manage the International Comics Museum of Lucca. The institution will focus on comics, illustration, video games, animation, and multimedia pop culture.

The festival also left two long-term projects. The exhibition Lucca Legacy: a Comics & Games story remains at Palazzo Guinigi until September 24, 2027, with the collaboration of POLI.design, the University of Chieti-Pescara, and Rai Teche.

The other is the 16-bit mobile game Luke & Clea – A Quest for Legacy, which entered the top 100 most downloaded titles on iOS and Android during its first week.
