Nico Nicholson launches Yosojito Konkatsu, her new manga after the end of her '90s series

Nico Nicholson, the author of My Lovesick Life as a '90s Otaku (Inishie Otaku no Koiwazurai), is back with a new manga. Kodansha's Be Love magazine announced that Yosojito Konkatsu will debut in the next issue, on December 1.

The magazine teases the story with a line that already has us thinking: "I was fine living alone, but — the search for something before the 'but' begins!" It sounds like Nicholson will once again touch on themes of loneliness and second chances, but this time in the world of looking for a partner.

Nicholson ended My Lovesick Life as a '90s Otaku in February 2023 in Kodansha's Kiss magazine. The fourth and final compiled volume came out in Japan in May of that year. Kodansha USA publishes it in English and released its fourth volume in August 2024.

That series portrayed an adult woman remembering her otaku teenage years in the '90s, with all the prejudices of the time. Nicholson earned a place among authors who depict nostalgia without idealizing it.

Now we'll see what she does with Yosojito Konkatsu. The title mixes "yosoji" (forty-something) with "konkatsu" (looking for a partner), so everything points to a mature protagonist. And honestly, we need more manga that talks about women that age without treating them like a joke.

The announcement doesn't mention yet whether the series will reach Latin America or which publisher would license it in Spanish. There are also no details about its length or whether it will be a short or long series.
