Shun Saeki, Shokugeki no Soma artist, is no longer exclusive to Shueisha
The mangaka has announced on social media that his exclusive contract with the publisher ended this November.
Artist Shun Saeki, known for the artwork of Shokugeki no Soma, announced this November 1 that his exclusive contract with Shueisha has ended. He said so himself on his X account, without giving more details about his upcoming projects.
Saeki wanted to make it official and explained that, from now on, he is no longer tied exclusively to the publisher. In Japan, this kind of move usually opens the door to collaborations with other magazines, though the author himself has said nothing about it.
The artist behind a cooking phenomenon
Shun Saeki's name is tied to Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars!), the manga that ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump and became one of the magazine's most popular titles. He handled the art, while Yūto Tsukuda wrote the story. The series also got an anime adaptation.
The work mixed cooking, humor, and competition with a very distinctive tone, and Saeki's linework was a key part of its identity. That's why any move in his career tends to interest manga readers so much.
For now, Shun Saeki has not revealed whether he already has a project lined up outside Shueisha. We'll have to keep an eye on his social media to see what his next step is.
