Shibatsuki Bukken manga gets anime in summer 2027
TMS Entertainment produces the adaptation, with Shinka Nakabayashi and Mutsumi Tamura in the lead roles
The Shibatsuki Bukken manga is getting an anime adaptation. The series will premiere in summer 2027, Shueisha announced this November 1, coinciding with "Dog Day" in Japan (wan wan wan). Along with the announcement came the main cast, the production team, a commemorative illustration, and the first promotional video.
The work, created by Esu Omori, has been published on Shōnen Jump+ since 2024 and has over 57 million views. It is a lighthearted comedy starring Kōri Momose, a middle school student looking for an apartment who ends up living in a room occupied by Muu-chan, a shiba inu turned into a ghost bound to the building. From there begins a life together with peculiar neighbors and more spectral dogs.
Cast and production team
Shinka Nakabayashi will voice Kōri Momose, the protagonist who cannot stand horror stories. Mutsumi Tamura will play Muu-chan, the canine spirit occupying room 101 of Maison Shiba. In her comment, the actress said she first learned of the work through an audition and that, as a dog lover, getting the role was especially exciting: "Even if he is a spirit, I don't want any dog to have a hard time."
Osamu Yamasaki, known for Seirei Gensouki, is directing. Rio, who worked on Neko ni Tensei shita Ojisan, is in charge of character designs. TMS Entertainment is producing the animation.
"The anime adaptation of Shibatsuki Bukken is such a big dream that I still can't believe it. I am full of gratitude. Thank you so muuuch!" — Esu Omori, manga author
Omori celebrated the news with a message in which he confesses he still hasn't fully grasped that his characters will move and speak on screen. "I'm already looking forward to it. I can't wait," he adds. The author accompanied the announcement with a special illustration.
First teaser
The teaser opens with Kōri visiting Maison Shiba, a new, cheap building in good condition, but with a reputation for being haunted. When the landlady opens the closet, Muu-chan appears with a sour look. The trailer stops at that first encounter between the boy and the ghost, with their life together as the big unknown.
Shueisha has not yet confirmed the episode count or the streaming platform in Japan.

It amuses me that Kōri can't stand horror stories and ends up sharing a flat with a ghost dog. Without having read the manga, I'm more interested in how they'll learn to coexist than in a succession of scares: that Muu-chan goes from being an awkward presence to someone you miss at home. I hope the neighbors and the other dogs have their own quirks and don't just stay as adorable companions.
