Doka Kui Daisuki! Mochizuki-san gets anime at studio Passione
Maruyo no Kamome's manga celebrates the announcement with an illustration and a special chapter drawn by the author.
Doka Kui Daisuki! Mochizuki-san is getting an anime. Maruyo no Kamome's work will receive a TV adaptation from Passione, the studio behind Spice and Wolf and Henneko. To celebrate, the author has shared an illustration and a commemorative manga.
The news comes with the protagonist stuffing herself with karaage in the promotional image. In the celebration manga, Mochizuki stands before a feast prepared for the occasion and says "I want to devour all of this right now," which perfectly sums up what the series is about.
A food comedy without brakes
The manga follows Mochizuki Mikoto, a calm and kind 21-year-old whose greatest happiness is eating until she bursts. Greasy, heavy dishes served in industrial quantities: she doesn't discriminate. The work turns every meal into a spectacle of excess where pleasure and guilt go hand in hand.
The series runs in Hakusensha's Young Animal Zero and Young Animal Web magazines. Its mix of absurd humor and unrestrained gluttony has earned it two consecutive appearances in the Next Manga Awards ranking, plus collaborations with 7-Eleven, CoCo Ichibanya, and even a cola drink with the protagonist's brand.
Passione and the challenge of animating gluttony
Passione will be in charge of bringing to the screen what makes the original special: those appetite-opening food scenes and the contradictory feeling of watching Mochizuki devour without limits. The studio has already shown ease with light-toned adaptations, though here the challenge is making every bite feel as excessive as in the panels.
For now there are no further details on the technical team, voice cast, or premiere date. It hasn't been announced which platform will stream it outside Japan either. The only sure thing is that Mochizuki and her binges will make it to television.
