Like a Dragon comes to Roblox with Yakuza Blocks and all the Kamurocho vibe
RGG Studio surprise-drops an official experience from the series on the block platform
RGG Studio (Ryu ga Gotoku Studio) announced this Wednesday something nobody saw coming: Like a Dragon, the series formerly known as Yakuza, now has an official game on Roblox.
It is called Yakuza Blocks: Like a Dragon and it is already available on the popular gaming and creation platform. The studio describes it with a line that sounds like a call to arms: "Gather your crew, Kamurocho is calling." The idea is to explore the fictional district, fight, and climb the ranks with your crew. "Explore Kamurocho, fight your way up, and rise to the top with your crew," they add.
The news is surprising because the series has always leaned into spectacle and fairly explicit violence, two things that do not quite fit Roblox's tone.
From PlayStation 2 to a world of blocks
Toshihiro Nagoshi created the series in 2005 for PlayStation 2. The first entry introduced Kazuma Kiryu, a low-ranking yakuza member, in the fictional Kamurocho, inspired by Tokyo's Kabukicho. Since then, the series has nine main entries and several spin-offs.
The jump to Roblox is not the studio's only recent move. Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, the remake of the third game bundled with a new standalone title, launched in February as a single release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Also, Stranger Than Heaven, the game previously known as "Project Century," will launch on January 15 for Xbox X|S, PS5, and PC via Steam, and it will be available on Game Pass.
A series that keeps expanding
The franchise has also tried its luck outside video games. Ryū ga Gotoku Powered By Nihon Tōitsu, the live-action crossover between the games and the original video series Nihon Tōitsu, debuted in Japan on Amazon Prime Video on February 10 with three episodes. It can be watched with English subtitles on Sega's YouTube channel.
Before that, in October 2024, Like a Dragon: Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku ~Beyond the Game~), the live-action series based on the games, arrived on Amazon Prime Video.
With Yakuza Blocks, the series joins the trend of bringing established franchises to Roblox, a platform that has already hosted collaborations with all kinds of brands.
