Yen Press licenses Mamoru Hosoda's Scarlet and nine more titles for April 2027
The announcement includes two audiobooks, two light novels, and six manga, among them the return of Cross-Dressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie.
Yen Press has announced ten new licenses during its panel at MCM London Comic Con 2026. All of them will arrive in April 2027, split between its Yen Audio audiobook imprint, its Yen On light novel imprint, and its manga catalog.
The most notable name on the list is Scarlet, the novel by Mamoru Hosoda, director of films like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and The Boy and the Beast. The work will be released as an audiobook under Yen Audio.
The princess seeking revenge in the land of the dead
The story follows Princess Scarlet, whose uncle Claudius seizes the throne and executes her father. After failing in her attempt at revenge, Scarlet wakes up in the land of the dead, a place where fallen soldiers from different eras fight without rest and the weak end up disappearing.
There she meets Hijiri, a nurse from present-day Japan. Despite coming from completely different worlds, the two travel together as Scarlet keeps pursuing those responsible for her father's death.
Two Yen Audio bets and two light novels
The second Yen Audio title is 'Cause I'm Freedom!, by Taro Hitsuji with illustrations by Azumi Akitake. The protagonist, Faye Leonheart, returns home after years of training with a magical machine gun instead of the sword her clan expected. She is disinherited, and she focuses on investigating the overgear, an ancient technology found in ruins.
On Yen On, the standout is Cross-Dressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie: Extra Round!, an extra volume by Hiroro Akizakura and Dangmill with stories set after the original series and alternative romance routes for Cecilia. The Oscar Route takes the couple to a royal wedding in a neighboring country, while the Gilbert Route explores an alternative relationship after the third volume.
The other light novel is And Thus, the Wizard Noi Garené Became a Bride 100 Years Later, by Eiko Mutsuhana. Noi Garené raises Kaldia, a boy destined to be the vessel of the Demon King. When the Demon King's appearance becomes inevitable, Noi sacrifices herself to save her apprentice. A century later she wakes up and a man identical to Kaldia asks her to marry him.
Six manga: horror, yandere, Girls' Love and Boys' Love
Secret, the psychological horror manga by Yoshiki Tonogai, author of Doubt, returns in a deluxe omnibus edition titled Secret: Homicide Edition. Six survivors of a bus accident discover that three murderers are hiding among them.
The manga adaptation of My Yandere Girlfriend Hiding in the Dungeon Kills Me Over and Over Again, with an original story by Nikita Kitagawa and art by Eiji Nomura, follows Kiska, a young man banished to the depths of a dungeon who obtains the "Save & Reset" skill.
The horror manga About a Place in the Kinki Region, adapted by Tsukasa Usui from the novel by Sesuji, begins with the disappearance of an editor at an occult magazine. A friend reconstructs his investigation from old articles, unsettling letters, and internet forums.
In romance, My Childhood Friend Meows Under the Skirt is a Girls' Love title by Raku Nanahashi about Ichika and Maki, two childhood friends who drifted apart and end up in the same class. A cat curse changes everything.
The Boys' Love title Summer Boy Blues, by Miyako Tono, brings Atsushi and Michiru together in the summer of their high school entrance exams after a complicated breakup. And Is the Hot-Voiced Streamer Into Me?! follows Sora Hoshino, a college student hooked on a BL roleplay ASMR streamer named Sojiro, who accepts an invitation to meet in person.
All ten licenses will be released in April 2027.
