Ribon's Hanarabi~zu manga gets anime shorts on YouTube

The manga Hanarabi~zu (歯ならび～ズ), by Kaneko Yukari, gets its anime short adaptation this Monday, October 26. The episodes will be released on the YouTube channel of Ribon, Shueisha's shōjo magazine where the work is published as part of the Kyaratan Lab character creation project.

Studio DLE, known for the Himitsu Kessha Taka no Tsume franchise, is handling production. The first episode, titled "Oasobi," premieres at 12:00 Japan time.

Three episodes with characters that are teeth

The series features a cast made up entirely of teeth: the protagonist is Nyūshi-chan, a baby tooth, joined by her friend Shōkyūshi-chan and by MUSHIBAsenpai, a tooth with cavities. The premise combines a tender tone with lightly surreal situations, as described in DLE's press release.

The release schedule is staggered. The second episode arrives on November 9 and the third on the 24th of the same month. All will premiere at noon in Japan.

FROGMAN, creator of Himitsu Kessha Taka no Tsume, voices some roles. The technical team is led by director Benpineko and animation director Suzuki Mame. Sound production is handled by INSPION Edge.

A project to create new characters

Kyaratan Lab is Ribon's initiative to launch original characters. Every month it publishes new manga chapters and illustrations starring these creations. Hanarabi~zu is one of the series currently serialized within the project.

DLE has previously worked on animated adaptations of character IP, in addition to its original productions. In the announcement, the studio says it has sought to respect the tone of Ribon magazine, aimed at a teenage audience, while bringing the appeal of the newly created characters to animation.

"The characters are all teeth. Nyūshi-chan and her friends move around with their little limbs and have conversations that bring a smile to your face," the press release explains.

The original manga is still running in Ribon. For now, there has been no announcement of more episodes beyond the three planned.
