TANK CHAIR and Fool Night authors draw a crossover art together

Yashiro Gaku and Yasuda Kasumi swap protagonists in a special illustration for the premiere of their anime.

Laura Martínez 25 October 2026

The TANK CHAIR and Fool Night anime come together in a very special collaboration. The authors of both manga, Yashiro Gaku and Yasuda Kasumi, have drawn a crossover illustration together to celebrate that both adaptations are currently airing.

The result is a curious protagonist swap. Yashiro Gaku, author of TANK CHAIR, drew the combat chair mask worn by Kamiya Toshiro, the main character of Fool Night. For his part, Yasuda Kasumi handled the vines climbing up the sword of Taira Nagi, the protagonist of TANK CHAIR.

The illustration was published along with comments from both authors. And what they say makes it clear they had fun making it.

Two friends drawing together

Yashiro Gaku doesn't hide his admiration for his colleague's work. "Every time I reread Fool Night I think it's a beautiful manga," he says. He highlights Yasuda's linework, capable of mixing dryness and emotion, and also the story: "even if forms change, people's feelings remain."

The TANK CHAIR author also has a more personal note: "Kano-san is cute." And he's grateful for the chance to draw with someone he admires as a fan.

The work session, according to him, was very smooth. So much so that half the conversation was spent talking about video games. "Well, I mean everything was decided very naturally," he clarifies with a laugh.

They shared screens while drawing, and Yashiro kept being amazed: "The whole time I was like 'wow, you're so good' or 'you draw it from there?'". For him it's been a super fun collaboration as a fan. And he wraps up: "Thank you, Yasuda-sensei! Can't wait to see the Fool Night anime!"

Yasuda Kasumi's take

Yasuda Kasumi, for his part, praises Yashiro's ability to create shapes. "The appeal of TANK CHAIR is Yashiro-sensei's incredible sense of design," he states. And it's not the first time he's said it: he confesses he repeats it every time he recommends the work to someone.

He's fascinated by how the mechanical designs, the creatures, the characters, and the powers form an inseparable whole, "simple and powerful at once." For him, the series' bright world is the perfect vessel for that talent to shine.

He closes with a very him image: "Let's all enjoy chef Yashiro's buffet, with those very poisonous dishes."

Both anime are still airing. What do you think of the protagonist swap? Tell us in the comments.
