The Date A Live anime adaptation has a date for its finale. The Date A Live F Last Date project will open in Japanese theaters on March 26, 2027, as announced during the Fantasia Bunko Grand Thanksgiving Festival 2026 digital event. The film will serve as the franchise's final arc and will close out the story led by Shido Itsuka.

The announcement came with a first teaser video and a second promotional image. The footage includes the tagline "Now, let's begin our final war," with which the team sets the tone for the definitive ending. Junji Nishimura directs at studio Fugaku, while ANIMEC handles distribution.

The production team brings back two key names from the latest seasons. Screenwriter Fumihiko Shimo and character designer Naoto Nakamura return after working together on the fourth and fifth seasons of the saga. The voice cast confirmed the return of the entire main lineup, led by Nobunaga Shimazaki, Marina Inoue, Misuzu Togashi, Ayana Taketatsu, Iori Nomizu, Asami Sanada, Maaya Uchida, Sarah Emi Bridcutt, Minori Chihara, Ayumi Mano, Hitomi Nabatame, Akari Kageyama, and Aya Endo.

The confirmation resolves the uncertainty about the project's format, which was first hinted at in April 2025. The title and the animation studio had been known since early this year, but it was not until this presentation that it became official that the finale would hit theaters as a feature film.

A franchise that closes after more than a decade

Date A Live began as a light novel series blending science fiction, romantic comedy, and fantasy, written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. Kadokawa published the work under the Fantasia Bunko imprint from March 2011 to March 2020, with a total of 22 collected volumes.

The story follows Shido Itsuka, a high school student who discovers that the spacequakes threatening Earth are caused by interdimensional beings known as spirits. To neutralize their powers without destroying them, the only solution offered to him is to make them fall in love and get them to kiss him.

The anime adaptation began in 2013 and has had an irregular run in terms of studios and formats. The first season was followed by a second in 2014, the Mayuri Judgment film in 2015, a third season in 2019, a fourth in 2022, and a fifth in April 2024. In 2020, the film adaptation of the Date A Bullet spin-off also premiered.

With Date A Live F Last Date, the franchise brings to an end a cycle that began more than fourteen years ago in the novels and that in anime has passed through multiple teams. The March 2027 film arrives with Shimo and Nakamura in charge of the script and characters.
