Water Margin Chapter 42 premieres with AI-created animation
Yuelingxi AI releases the fourth episode of this installment, centered on Song Jiang, and announces that the next part is already on the way.
The fourth episode of chapter 42 of Water Margin (Suikoden), the classic Chinese novel that has inspired countless adaptations, is now available. Behind this new animated version is Yuelingxi AI, which is betting on generative artificial intelligence to bring its characters to life.
The episode focuses on Song Jiang, one of the best-known protagonists of the work. The company confirmed it on its official account, where it also makes clear that there is more to come: "More excitement in the next episode."
This is not the first time this production company has worked with Water Margin. Chapter 42 already has several installments, and this fourth part continues the story right where the previous one left off. For those unfamiliar with the novel, it is one of the four great classics of Chinese literature, with 108 outlaws rebelling against government corruption. Song Jiang is their leader, a character with as many lights as shadows.
A bet on generative AI
What makes this production special is not just the story, but how it is made. Yuelingxi AI uses generative AI tools and intelligent agents to create the animation, a field that more and more small and medium-sized studios are stepping into. The idea is clear: reduce costs and time without giving up on telling a good story.
In recent months we have seen similar experiments in Japan, such as AI-animated shorts that spark debate between purists and the curious. The difference here is that this is not a demo: it is a series with numbered episodes and a narrative that moves forward.
The production company is part of the Yaoshi Xinghui Media group, known for its digital entertainment projects in China. With each episode they release, the bet on AI stops being an anecdote and becomes a way of working.
What to expect now
There is no concrete date for the next installment yet, but the company's message suggests it won't take too long. What we do know is that Song Jiang's story will continue, and that AI will remain the technical protagonist of the project.
