The Fool Night anime keeps adding names less than a month before its premiere. The Sunrise and Shaft production confirmed five new voice actors and unveiled the main key visual along with the final trailer.

The series will arrive on Netflix on November 26, 2026 with all episodes available at once. The platform will have exclusive worldwide distribution.

Among the additions, Wakayama Shion stands out as Matsuno Sumi, a pianist searching for her father who became a reika. Also joining are Doita Hiroshi as Hikasa Ken, Okamoto Nobuhiko as Nishi, Chimoto Ayaka as Okumura Megu, and Kobayashi Yumiko as Ivy.

The new characters and their conflicts

Matsuno Sumi is a music student talented enough to give concerts. She arrives at Tenkain looking for her father, who underwent the tenka to pay for his daughter's university studies. Wakayama describes the character as someone with an invisible pain despite her privileged environment.

Hikasa Ken and Nishi belong to the wing opposing the tenka. Hikasa is the secretary general of the Eijitō party, a man willing to do anything for his goals. Nishi, for his part, has a past with Yatsuka Akira, one of the protagonists. Okamoto hints that the character hides a complexity that doesn't show on the surface.

Okumura Megu is a third-year middle school student who lives alone with her father. Her life changes when both take part in a protest against the tenka. Ivy, on the other hand, is a complete reika who can still move and is wanted as the culprit behind a series of murders targeting wealthy people.

Music and visuals

The opening will be Shake! spit out by Tempalay. The band takes as its starting point a Shakespeare quote that opens the manga, and its vocalist, Ohara Ayato, explains that the song aims to reflect the thirst for life, contradiction, and escape within despair.

For the ending, Nowlu performs Iki. The singer says the suffering and rage she was going through while writing the lyrics matched what the work stirred in her. Her profile fits the anime's tone: a low, smoky, mysterious register.

The key visual shows Tōshirō, Yomiko, Akira, Kanō, and Jin with black shadows creeping toward their feet. Behind them rises the Tenkain, as if watching over everyone's fate. The main trailer combines those images with Tempalay's theme.

What Fool Night is about

The story starts from an Earth covered by thick clouds, with dead plants and a critical lack of oxygen. To survive, humanity develops the tenka: a technique that buries seeds in the bodies of people near death and turns them into plants. The oxygen those reika produce keeps the planet alive.

Kamiya Tōshirō, hopeless due to poverty, decides to undergo the procedure. At the Tenkain he reunites with Hōrai Yomiko, his childhood friend, who works there. After the intervention, Tōshirō develops the ability to hear the voices of the reika and becomes a temporary employee of the center. At the same time, a series of murders committed by reika begins to spread through the city.

The main cast is completed by Uchiyama Kōki as Tōshirō, Kotobuki Minako as Yomiko, Enoki Junya as Akira, Endō Aya as Kanō Saeko, and Mizunaga Kiyomitsu as Hiragane Jin.

The original manga is published in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior, with 13 collected volumes to date. The work has over one million copies in circulation counting digital editions and has been published in 17 countries. In 2023 it won the best suspense award at the Japan Expo Awards and was nominated for the Angoulême International Comics Festival.

Direction is handled by Yukawa Atsuyuki, with Tanaka Hitoshi on series composition and Robert Satō on character design. Music is by Katō Tatsuya.
