TMS Entertainment to Absorb Telecom Animation Film and Dissolve the Studio
The company will integrate rights, obligations, and production of its subsidiary following fiscal 2025 losses
Image from the original Anitsu edition. TMS Entertainment announced that it will dissolve and absorb Telecom Animation Film, its production subsidiary. The operation ceases to exist as an independent company, and its rights, obligations, and production come under TMS's control, which will continue to operate it as an internal division.
The decision stems from the studio's numbers. Telecom Animation Film posted losses of 346 million yen in the fiscal year ended March 2025, while TMS distributed dividends of 2,091 million yen. The absorption aims to consolidate the accounts and concentrate production under a single command.
Telecom Animation Film was established in 1975 as a subsidiary of Tokyo Movie, now TMS Entertainment. Its track record includes work on franchises such as Lupin III and Detective Conan, as well as collaborations with Studio Ghibli on films like Princess Mononoke and recent titles such as Blue Box and Tower of God.
TMS's official history already records the absorption of Telecom Animation Film in 2026. No details are given on the impact the measure will have on the studio's workforce.
