Maeda suffered from a malignant sarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer that affects connective tissues. In October 2025, she made her illness public and explained that she had moved to the Kansai region to continue treatment. In late February 2026, she announced her retirement from voice acting after three decades of career because her health condition no longer allowed her to go to the studio.
The performer is remembered for roles such as Ferri in the Puyo Puyo video game series and Carlos in Transformers: Armada. Her sister asked fans to remember her work fondly and thanked them for the support received during her illness.
