Image from the original Anitsu edition. Voice actor Takahiro Fujiwara, known for playing Kurogiri in My Hero Academia and Kan Jou in Kingdom, died on May 14 at the age of 43. His agency, Ken Production, announced the news and noted that the funeral was held privately with only close family members, at the family's request.
Fujiwara was born on July 15 in Hokkaido. His agency profile described him as "an old man who can't stop playing video games, so much so that he forgets to eat and sleep," and as a "complete homebody who makes an effort to stay home." The text added that his appearance and voice made him seem like a villain, but that he considered himself "quite adorable."
In anime, in addition to Kurogiri and Kan Jou, he voiced Zenzō Inukai in Laughing Under the Clouds, Jerome Guizbatt in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Bol Gil Bol in BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-: Hell's Requiem, Pippin in the Berserk: The Golden Age Arcsaga, Eikichi Nebuya in Kuroko's Basketball and Goichi Shima in Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z. In August of last year, he had to step down from the role of Kan Jou due to health issues, and Teruyuki Tanzawa replaced him.
He also worked in video games, such as Walter Eckhardt in Detective Pikachu, Deadshot and Lagase in Batman: Arkham Shadow, Goro Daimon in The King of Fighters XIV and The King of Fighters: All Star, King Curlking in The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes and Owetu "Jackal" Mabuza in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. In Japanese dubbing, he was Harry in Sing, Marshmallow in Frozen and Dr. Screwball Jones in Wander Over Yonder, in addition to playing Kevin Crawford in the series CSI.
