Image from the original Anitsu edition. Production of the second season of Sentenced to Be a Hero has been officially confirmed, just days after the first installment concluded. The announcement came during AnimeJapan 2026, accompanied by a promotional image and a trailer for fans of the dark fantasy series.
Studio Kai will return to animate the new season, keeping the team responsible for the first adaptation. Additionally, Crunchyroll acquired the streaming rights in the same move, ensuring the series continues on its platform.
The first season ended on March 26, 2026 with its 12th episode, following a special 60-minute premiere on January 3. The work is based on the web novel written by Rocket Shokai in October 2020, which later made the leap to light novel, manga, and now anime.
The story follows Xylo Forbartz, a former knight accused of killing a goddess and sentenced to fight as a hero in Penal Unit 9004. His alliance with a new goddess threatens the system that keeps him trapped in an endless cycle of battles against abominations.
