Pony Canyon Posts 6.3 Billion Yen Loss, Hitting Fuji Media's Finances
Downward revision of earnings forecast reflects lack of hit titles and increased amortization in the anime business
Image from the original Anitsu edition. Fuji Media Holdings, owner of Pony Canyon, announced a downward revision of its consolidated net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2026. The company expects a 71.1% drop from its previous estimate, according to Reuters and reported by Automaton West.
The main reason for the adjustment is the losses recorded at Pony Canyon as part of structural reforms in its anime business. The company booked an impairment loss of approximately 6.3 billion yen (about 39.5 million dollars) related to production costs, including major revisions to its investment plans and reforms to its cost structure.
The decision comes at a difficult financial time for Pony Canyon, driven by falling revenue amid a lack of hit titles and increased amortization of investments related to the anime business. The company, known for its involvement in the production and distribution of series such as Attack on Titan and numerous Kyoto Animation titles, plans to restructure its content production system and work urgently to create hits in the animation sector and improve profitability.
