Image from the original Anitsu edition. Kodansha announced the anime adaptation of Mii-chan to Yamada-san, the manga by Nene Azuki, slated to premiere in 2027. The news came with a special illustration drawn by the author herself to celebrate the announcement.
Azuki began serializing this drama on the Magazine Pocket platform in September 2024. Since then, the series has accumulated 2.8 million copies in circulation. The seventh and final collected volume will go on sale on September 9, bringing the story to a close.
The English license is held by Seven Seas Entertainment, which will publish the first volume on December 8. As for accolades, the manga placed fourth in the Top 20 for Male Readers in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2026 and was nominated in the General category of the 50th Kodansha Manga Awards.
Set in 2012 Shinjuku, the story follows Yamada, a university student who works as a hostess in nightclubs, and her encounter with Mii-chan, a clumsy and seemingly useless young woman whose energy ends up drawing her in. The official synopsis describes it as a beautiful and tragic story about an unlikely friendship and the unfortunate ending that separated them forever.
