The Legend of Zelda live-action movie moves its release up to April 30, 2027
Nintendo shifts the worldwide date by one week, and Miyamoto assures the team is speeding up production to deliver it as soon as possible
Image from Anitsu's original edition. Nintendo has moved up the worldwide release of the live-action movie The Legend of Zelda. The film, originally scheduled for May 7, 2027, will hit theaters on April 30, 2027.
The announcement was signed by Shigeru Miyamoto through the company's social media. "We have decided to change the worldwide theatrical release date of the live-action film The Legend of Zelda from May 7, 2027 to April 30, 2027," he wrote. The creative added that the team is united to push production forward and deliver the movie "even if it's just one day earlier."
The change places the release on a Friday and right at the start of Japan's Golden Week, a holiday period with heavy theater attendance. The new date also puts the film on a competitive calendar alongside titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
The adaptation is directed by Wes Ball, the filmmaker behind Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda. Filming in New Zealand has already wrapped, although Nintendo is keeping the story and the rest of the cast under wraps.
