Kyoto Animation will adapt the manga Credits Roll Into The Sea (Umi ga Hashiru Endroll) by John Tarachine into an anime film set to premiere in 2027. Taichi Ishidate, director of Violet Evergarden, CITY The Animation and Beyond the Boundary, will helm the project, while Shochiku will handle distribution.

The story follows Umiko, a 65-year-old woman grieving the recent loss of her husband. When she goes to the movies for the first time in decades, she meets Kai, a university film student. After the screening, Umiko invites him to her home, and when Kai asks if she's interested in making films, she steps into the world of cinema.

Tarachine has been publishing the manga in Akita Shoten's Mystery Bonita magazine since October 2020. The eighth collected volume was released on July 17, and the series will end with the ninth, scheduled for May 15. Dark Horse will publish the first volume in English on July 7.

The manga topped the female readers' ranking in the 2022 edition of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! and placed sixth in the 2023 edition. It was also the ninth highest-ranked manga in the 15th Manga Taisho Awards in 2022 and received nominations for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2023 and 2025.
