The government of Japan plans to create a specialized entity to promote anime, video games, and other Japanese content in international markets. A working group held its first discussions on the formation of this body on Thursday, according to Nikkei Asia.

The initiative contemplates a total investment of $210 billion between public funds and private sector support, to be executed between now and 2033. The goal is to increase the global revenues of these industries by more than 225% by that year.

According to data collected by Popverse, the estimated distribution of the investment would be approximately $9.8 billion for manga, $20 billion for anime, $151 billion for video games, and $18 billion for music.

The plan responds to the push from South Korea, which has promoted K-Pop and webtoons through the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), and to China's recent injection of nearly $800 billion into its own pop culture exports.
