IG Port Faces Profit Decline Due to Delays and Rising Anime Production Costs
The parent company of Production I.G and Wit Studio reported a 46.3% drop in operating profit and an $8.22 million loss in its animation division
Image from the original Anitsu edition. IG Port, the parent company of Production I.G and Wit Studio, closed its fiscal year ending May 2026 with a 46.3% year-on-year drop in operating profit, a result that came in nearly 57% below what the company itself had projected.
The video and animation production division increased its revenue by 10.7% compared to the previous year, but that growth did not translate into profits: the segment posted an operating loss of approximately $8.22 million. Titles associated with that activity include Devil's Crest, Eren the Southpaw, Agents of the Four Seasons, HAIKYU!! VS the Little Giant and The One Piece.
The company identified delays in production schedules and rising costs across the industry as the main causes of the setback, with higher expenses in personnel, CG production, and subcontracting. It also recorded provisions for anticipated losses on orders, indicating that some ongoing projects could cost more than they will generate in revenue.
The publishing and licensing divisions performed strongly and even exceeded internal forecasts. Even so, the company expects its operating profit to fall again, this time by 24.3%, during the next fiscal year.
