WHITE FOX announced the TV adaptation of How I Became King by Eating Monsters (Monster no Niku wo Kutteitara Ōi ni Tsuita Ken), the light novel series written by Daken. The anime will debut in 2027.

The story follows Mars, the first prince of the kingdom of Farune. At just twelve years old, he lives under threat of assassination and nearly all of his food could be poisoned, so he sneaks out of the castle to hunt monsters in a nearby forest. One night, a red-haired woman with a great sword tells him he has the potential to become her disciple. Eating monsters makes him stronger, and with that power Mars begins to overcome assassination attempts, though that only marks the start of wars and conspiracies on a continental scale.

The announcement came with commemorative illustrations by Shiba, the original illustrator of the novels, and by Karin Suzuragi, who handles the manga.

The Original Work's Progress

  • Daken started the story on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in January 2022.
  • Micro Magazine's GCN Bunko imprint has been publishing the volumes since September 2023.
  • Karin Suzuragi's manga began in January 2024 in Hakusensha's Young Animal Zero magazine.
