CloverWorks Posts Losses for Second Consecutive Year Despite Its Successes
The studio reported a net loss of 38 million yen in the fiscal year ending March 2026
Image from the original Anitsu edition. CloverWorks reported a net loss of 38 million yen in the fiscal year ending March 2026, according to its financial statement published in Japan's official gazette. It is the second consecutive year in the red for the studio, and the figure widens the 24 million yen loss from the previous fiscal year.
The result comes after a year with standout productions such as My Dress-Up Darling season 2, Spy x Family season 3, and The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity. Despite this, the studio failed to return to profitability.
CloverWorks is a subsidiary of Aniplex, which gives it significant financial backing. The studio already went through losses in fiscal years such as 2019 and 2020, and later recovered. On this occasion it maintains positive net assets of about 577.6 million yen.
An analyst cited by Automaton points out that the case reflects a structural problem: studios owned by large publishers operate as cost centers, while licensing profits are concentrated in the parent company.
