Seibetsu "Mona Lisa" no Kimi e. anime premieres in 2027 and reveals first trailer

The anime adaptation of Seibetsu "Mona Lisa" no Kimi e. (Just Like Mona Lisa) now has a release window: it will arrive in 2027. The series' official website released a first promotional video on Wednesday featuring a preview of the ending theme, along with a key visual and the names of seven voice actors joining the cast.

Among the additions are Yoshino Aoyama, the voice of Bocchi in Bocchi the Rock!; Nobuhiko Okamoto, who appears in Sousou no Frieren; Daisuke Sakuma (Kill Ao); Chiharu, a member of the group 22/7; Kakeru Hatano (Tamon-kun Ima Docchi!?); Haruna Mikawa (Ore dake Level Up na Ken) and Shion Wakayama (Dandadan). The announcement does not specify which character each one plays.

The ending theme is titled "Mayoi wa Hikari" and is performed by singer-songwriter imase, whom you may remember from his song for Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari. A snippet can already be heard in the trailer.

The team behind it

The anime is produced at studio Shaft, known for works like 3-gatsu no Lion. Kana Shundou, coming from Apocalypse Hotel, directs, and Nobuhiro Sugiyama handles character design and serves as chief animation director. Music is composed by Yuuki Hayashi, responsible for the Medalist soundtrack.

The announcement also breaks down much of the technical staff. Kouji Matsumura will be the assistant director; Katsuhiko Takayama is in charge of series composition and script. Kazuya Shiotsuki and Akihisa Takano work as chief animation directors, with Yoshiaki Itou as main animator. Yukako Ogawa handles art direction, with Junichi Taniguchi on art boards and Morihito Oohara on art design. Rounding out the team are Yasuko Watanabe on color, Rei Egami on photography, Rie Matsubara on editing, and Kouhei Yoshida on sound direction. CyberAgent is listed as executive producer.

A short manga that's already finished

Seibetsu "Mona Lisa" no Kimi e. began as a manga by Tsumuji Yoshimura, who started publishing it in the web magazine Gangan Online in May 2018. It's a romantic drama that Square Enix collected in ten volumes and concluded in December 2022, so those who want to know the full story before the premiere can do so.

For now, the only confirmed detail about the date is that 2027. We'll have to wait for a future announcement to know which specific season it airs in.
