The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 English dub arrives Wednesday

Crunchyroll announced on Monday the cast and staff for the English dub of the second season of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru.). The first dubbed episode premieres on Wednesday, October 21, one day after the announcement.

The news comes with the season already airing. The second installment of the anime based on the light novels by Nigojū and Umibōzu premiered in Japan on October 7, and Crunchyroll is streaming it simultaneously with subtitles.

The dub announcement is not a surprise for those who follow the franchise. The first season, which premiered in July 2021 with a one-hour special and 12 episodes, also had an English dub through Funimation. Crunchyroll absorbed Funimation's catalog and keeps the habit of dubbing its most visible simulcasts.

A long road until October

The second season was announced in July 2022, but the project has not had a straight path. Kadokawa first said it would premiere in July of this year, then delayed it to October. Four years between seasons, with a date change in between, is not usual for a series that started strong.

The main staff returns from the first installment. Manabu Kurihara directs at ENGI, Deko Akao writes the scripts, and Yōsuke Itō returns as character designer. 40mP composes the music and also the opening and ending songs. Kōme performs the opening "Kono Shinzō ni Hanabata wo" (A Bouquet for This Heart), while Kagura Nana returns with the ending "Hakuchumu" (Daydreams).

More music videos on Crunchyroll

On the same Monday, Crunchyroll added several music videos to its catalog. Among them are the themes from Daemons of the Shadow Realm: "fly away" by Vaundy and "peacock" by Kei Sugawara. Also added were "FLASHBULB" and "Hanataba" by Omoinotake, both for the second season of Hana-Kimi, and "Conifer" by Regal Lily, the ending for Draw This, Then Die!.

The list also includes videos by BURNOUT SYNDROMES, with themes from Haikyu!!, and songs by Centimillimental, Arash Buana, Umeda Cypher, CVLTE, Ikusaburo Yamazaki, milet, NiziU, PEOPLE1, PUFFY, and yutori.

Crunchyroll launched its music and content hub with Sony Music Entertainment Japan in 2023. Since then it has expanded the catalog with music videos from series it streams, a move that strengthens its anime and Japanese music ecosystem.
