Hideo Kojima will cameo in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2
The Japanese creative will reprise Hideyoshi Oshima, the director who already appeared in Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has confirmed.
Hideo Kojima will have a role in the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The Japanese creative will once again play Hideyoshi Oshima, the film director players could meet in Cyberpunk 2077, near the bar at the Konpeki Plaza hotel. CD Projekt Red announced it through its official X account.
Kojima himself has also shared the news on his social media. "I will appear as a guest in this animated series playing Hideyoshi Oshima, the character who already appeared in the previous game," he wrote alongside a photo of the recording studio. In the video game, his character talked about rebuilding complex, realistic emotions through the memory-exploration technology known as braindance, in order to weave better stories.

The designer of the Metal Gear saga has appeared in several outside projects over the years, but here he reprises a specific role within the universe created by CD Projekt Red. The collaboration makes sense: the Polish studio already included him in Cyberpunk 2077 as part of that hall of mirrors between Night City and real pop culture.
A sequel with a new cast
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is set in Night City again, but it doesn't continue the story of David and Lucy. The sequel features a completely different main cast, with four lead characters named Week, D, Roman, and Thalia. The plot revolves around revenge and redemption, following a group of edgerunners who lose their humanity amid madness and violence.
Studio TRIGGER returns at the helm of the animation, which guarantees the fast-paced action and saturated colors that defined the first installment. The original series premiered on Netflix in September 2022 and became one of the platform's most-watched anime, as well as boosting sales of the video game.

For now, Netflix has not announced a release date for these new episodes. Kojima's cameo joins a production that has been building anticipation among those who follow the Cyberpunk universe, and it confirms that the sequel will keep the franchise's self-referential tone.
Two video games in development
The involvement in Edgerunners 2 doesn't pull Kojima away from his main projects. The director is still working on two titles through his studio, Kojima Productions. The first is Physint, an action, adventure, and infiltration game starring actor Bill Skarsgård. The second is OD, a horror title he is developing with filmmaker Jordan Peele.
Neither has a confirmed release date. What today's announcement makes clear is that Kojima maintains his relationship with CD Projekt Red and with the world of Cyberpunk, a franchise that has moved between video games and animation with ease.
