Animation is handled by Tezuka Productions.
Promotional frame from the official Rainy Day Serenade teaser. The original manga ran in Kodansha's Kiss magazine between November 2014 and November 2025. The work ended with 73 chapters collected in 14 volumes. Kodansha USA also announced the license for the series for its English edition.
A romance between the present day and Japan in 1907
The story begins with a recurring dream. On rainy days, Hina remembers a scene from her childhood: she plays in an unknown garden with a mysterious boy. When she finds that place by chance, she meets Takaaki, who mistakes her for his fiancée, Hinako. That encounter leads her to 1907, in the middle of the Meiji era, where she discovers that another young woman identical to her has taken her place.
The plot turns the romance between the two young people into a family and temporal mystery. Hina must understand what happened and how she fits into a time that is not her own. The premise combines historical drama and romantic fantasy, while Hinako's identity and the circumstances of the Hongo family complicate the protagonist's return.
Exhibition and talk with the author in Tokyo
The adaptation will also have a special exhibition to celebrate the anime and the start of a new spin-off manga. The show will run from November 25 to December 8, 2026 at Aoyama Book Center Main Store in Tokyo, with free admission. It will display manuscripts and original drawings selected by Kawachi, as well as production materials and anime documents that will be shown for the first time.
On December 6 there will be a signing session and a talk with the author. Scriptwriter Yoko Yonaiyama and producer Sou Takagi, from Tezuka Productions, will also take part to discuss the creation of the series. Tickets will go on sale on November 14 at 12:00 p.m. (Japan time), on a first-come, first-served basis.
The exact broadcast date, as well as the channels and platforms that will distribute it, have not been announced yet.
