Girls Band Cry movie opens on May 21, 2027

The trailer shows Togenashi Togenari on a national tour, and the first batch of advance tickets arrives on November 6

Juan Castillo 3 November 2026

The Girls Band Cry movie has a release date: Girls Band Cry THE MOVIE will open on May 21, 2027. The announcement comes with a special trailer that previews the band Togenashi Togenari on a full national tour, with the tagline "Togenashi Togenari on a national tour!?" and a scene of the five leads playing live.

The teaser uses Nari Teshima's character designs and shows Nina Iseri, Momoka Kawaragi, Subaru Awa, Tomo Ebizuka, and Rupa. The teaser arrives alongside a 10-ticket advance card featuring the trailer artwork, which goes on sale on November 6.

The movie picks up the story from the anime: Nina dropped out of high school and moved to Tokyo alone, where she met Momoka, the vocalist and guitarist of Diamond Dust. From there, the two form Togenashi Togenari with Subaru, Tomo, and Rupa, five girls carrying different wounds who find a way forward through music.

A national tour and unfinished business with Diamond Dust

In the official synopsis, Nina remains grateful to the music that saved her, but she is also curious about the world Diamond Dust reached after they parted ways. Nina and Momoka's ideas clash, though the reunion of their feelings leads them to decide they want to keep making music together.

Togenashi Togenari manages to fill the Budokan at the fall festival, and just as the five start living off their music, they receive an unexpected offer: a concert set against Diamond Dust, with the rival band's management agency involved. The result is a national tour that comes together while Nina and the others juggle part-time jobs and rehearsals.

The trailer shows scenes in different cities, a growing audience, and a tension that goes beyond the stage. The scale of the conflict with Diamond Dust rises, and with it the pressure on a group that until now had been moving in small circuits.

The band that existed before the anime

Togenashi Togenari is not a last-minute invention for the movie. The band has existed since 2023, when it started as a music project tied to the original Girls Band Cry anime. The five members combine acting and live music, and since the series premiered in April 2024, they have handled the opening and ending themes, plus several insert songs.

The TV series aired from April to June 2024 and told the group's formation from scratch, with Nina as the throughline. Then came the concerts: the Budokan in 2025, a tour in Japan and abroad in 2026, and now a solo concert at a landmark European venue planned for 2027.

The first advance ticket card goes on sale on November 6. Online sales open on June 18 at Movie Walker Store and the Animate shop, with a special bonus for pre-orders: a mini acrylic stand with the trailer artwork, in four versions.

I'm more curious about the trips and rehearsals between concerts. That's where there's room for the five of them to get closer offstage.
