xxxHOLiC Releases Three New Plush Toys Featuring Yuko and Watanuki as Black Cats

CLAMP is making waves in the merchandising world once again. xxxHOLiC will get three new plush toys from Tapioca, with Yuko Ichihara and Kimihiro Watanuki as the absolute protagonists. Reservations are already open at Anime Store.JP and close on October 3, 2026. Delivery, according to official information, will be in February 2027.

The piece generating the most buzz is Tapimiau, a plush that turns the characters into black cats. Fluffy fur, paw pads, and the air of a familiar that anyone who has read the manga will recognize instantly. It comes in two versions: Yuko and Watanuki. Each costs 2,970 yen, tax included.

This is not the first time CLAMP has played with the idea of turning its characters into creatures. In xxxHOLiC, cats and the intermediate forms between the human and the supernatural are part of the work's visual language. Seeing Yuko with black cat ears and a tail makes sense within that universe, and it doesn't feel like a mere commercial whim.

Three Formats, Seven Characters

The full lineup includes three products. Besides Tapimiau, there is Cupcake Tapi, a plush shaped like a cupcake with the character's hands peeking out. And Flat Tapi, a flat version that bets on a soft texture and just the right thickness to take anywhere.

The character lineup is generous. It features Yuko, Watanuki as a student, Watanuki as the shop owner, Shizuka Domeki, Himawari Kunogi, Marudashi, and Morodashi. Seven figures in total, spread across the three formats. This is not a small release.

It's striking that they include Watanuki in two different stages of his life. It's a detail that shows Tapioca knows the series' audience. Anyone who followed the manga to the end knows what it means to see the character as a student and as Yuko's successor running the shop.

A Franchise That's Still Alive

The announcement comes at an active time for xxxHOLiC. The xxxHOLiC Rei manga is still being published, and volume 6 comes out on November 6 in Japan, including a special edition. It's no coincidence that the merchandise appears right now: the series keeps generating conversation among veteran and new readers alike.

The prices aren't low, but they are in line with what Tapioca handles for other franchises. 2,970 yen for a 15-centimeter-tall plush is a reasonable figure for the Japanese collectibles market. The problem, as always, will be international shipping for those who don't live in Japan.
