The Mourning Children: Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black

Set in 10th century Kyoto during the Heian period, the film depicts a city far removed from its elegant cultural image. Plague epidemics have ravaged the capital, leaving tens of thousands dead. Corpses fill the gutters, children are abandoned in the mountains, and packs of wild dogs vigilantly prowl the city's outskirts.
Amidst this pervasive darkness and death, the story follows Nagiko and a group of girls clad in tsurubami black. They navigate a world shrouded in mourning, where survival itself is a daily struggle against the backdrop of societal collapse and relentless disease.
