On A Paper Crane: Tomoko's Adventure

つるにのって とも子の冒険

Tomoko, a young girl, visits the Hiroshima Peace Memorial during a school trip. There, she has a mysterious encounter with Sadako, a girl who was only two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima during World War II and who later died at age eleven from leukemia caused by radiation poisoning. Sadako takes Tomoko on an eye-opening journey through time and space, showing her the city before the bombing, the moment of the explosion, and the aftermath of destruction and suffering. As they travel together, Tomoko witnesses the lives of ordinary people affected by the tragedy, including Sadako's own struggle with illness and her famous quest to fold a thousand paper cranes in hopes of a wish for peace. Through this profound experience, Tomoko begins to understand the true cost of war and the enduring importance of hope and remembrance.
