To counter this, a Saniwa sage summons legendary Japanese swords to life, transforming them into a band of spirited young men known as Touken Danshi. Their mission is to travel through time and protect the past from alteration. Among them are the earnest Yamatonokami Yasusada and the glamorous Kashu Kiyomitsu, who reunite at the Saniwa's citadel. While always ready to answer the call to battle, the swords also experience the charming and often humorous daily life of their new home, forging bonds through shared moments and lighthearted antics.

As the New Year's Eve celebrations approach, the Touken Danshi, living swords brought to life, prepare to celebrate in their own unique way. Their peaceful existence at the citadel is interrupted by the arrival of two new swords, Higekiri and Hizamaru, who must learn the ways of their new home. Kashuu Kiyomitsu, the eldest of the sword warriors, is tasked with guiding the newcomers. He is joined by fellow swords Shishiou, Hotarumaru, and Akashi Kuniyuki. Together, they navigate the daily life of the citadel, balancing lighthearted moments with the underlying duty that defines their existence.
