SWEET TOUCH OF LOVE

In 1974, an experimental short film was created specifically for the 1st 100-ft Film Festival, an event organized by the Underground Center that showcased works made with a single 100-foot reel of film. The film presents a unique visual experience that plays with the fundamental elements of cinema.

The piece is composed of a countdown leader that moves both forward and backward in an unconventional loop, challenging the viewer's perception of time and sequence. Intercut with this rhythmic leader is an animated sequence featuring Marilyn Monroe, depicted in a seductive pose while eating a banana. The juxtaposition of the mechanical leader with the organic, iconic imagery creates a surreal and thought-provoking contrast.

Through its minimalist structure and playful manipulation of filmic conventions, the work explores themes of repetition, desire, and the nature of cinematic representation. The animation stands as a notable example of underground experimental filmmaking from the 1970s, blending pop culture references with avant-garde techniques.
