The Cuckoo Calls Too Late

Spring arrives and a cuckoo, leading its young, flies to the mountain village as usual, calling out to remind people to sow their grain seeds. Its cries draw laughter from the animals, who say it is late this year; the seeds have already been planted and the seedlings are sprouting.

Disbelieving, the cuckoo flies to the fields and sees the lush green ground. With the help of an old scarecrow friend, it learns that people now use scientific farming methods, allowing for earlier planting and harvesting. Feeling useless, the cuckoo tries to teach its young a new call, but finds it awkward.
