Vinland Saga: Yukimura confirms season 3 is not in production
The author replied to a fan on X and made it clear there is no news about a third anime installment.
Makoto Yukimura, creator of Vinland Saga, confirmed that season 3 of the anime is not in production. He said so on October 22, 2026 in a direct reply to a fan on X, where he admitted he had no "good news" about the project.
The author answered questions on social media after Kodansha received a large volume of mail from fans. Asked about a possible third installment, Yukimura was clear: "it is not currently in progress."
This update does not mean the series is canceled or shelved. There is simply nothing in the works yet.
A sequel that was never officially announced
Season 3 of Vinland Saga has never received a formal announcement or a production green light. Expectations grew after the end of the second season in June 2023, when chief animation director Takahiko Abiru shared an illustration with the Roman numeral "III" and the phrase "Thorfinn's journey will continue."
The team itself later clarified that the post should not be taken as an official announcement. In January 2026 rumors circulated again, and Yukimura had to come out and say he had received no information about a continuation.
The manga is already complete
The wait for the sequel drags on. Vinland Saga, animated by WIT Studio, premiered in July 2019 with 24 episodes. Twin Engine announced the second season in July 2021, with MAPPA handling the animation, and it aired in 2023.
More than three years have passed since the end of the second season and the official confirmation still has not come. Meanwhile, Yukimura finished the manga's serialization in July 2025 after 20 years, with 220 chapters collected in 29 volumes. All the source material is published and ready to adapt.
