BEAMS MANGART launches its first Cowboy Bebop collection on October 30
The line commemorates the film's 25th anniversary and arrives with designs by Tetsuya Nagato
BEAMS MANGART announced its first collaboration with Cowboy Bebop. The collection goes on sale on October 30, 2026 and commemorates the 25th anniversary of Cowboy Bebop: Tengoku no Tobira, the film that premiered in 2001 and now returns with a 4K remaster.
The project invited art director Tetsuya Nagato to create collages with scenes, characters, and motifs from the series. The idea is to treat the franchise as a piece of art, not as a simple print. And it shows in the product selection: T-shirts, hoodies, bandanas, blankets, and even a skateboard.
The skateboard deserves a separate mention because it isn't sold like the rest. It's made to order and can be reserved both at the physical store and on BEAMS' official website. The sales period for the entire collection runs from October 30 to November 10, at BEAMS CULTUART Takanawa and in the online store.
A film still alive 25 years later
Cowboy Bebop: Tengoku no Tobira takes place between episodes 22 and 23 of the TV series. The plot kicks off with a bioterrorist attack in Alba City, Mars, and a 300 million woolong bounty. Spike and the others try to identify the suspect from a video Faye recorded by chance, but the man in it should have been dead since the war.
The film kept the series' core team: direction by Shinichiro Watanabe, music by Yoko Kanno, and animation by BONES. The cast brings back Koichi Yamadera as Spike, Unsho Ishizuka as Jet, Megumi Hayashibara as Faye, and Aoi Tada as Ed. The film adds Tsutomu Isobe as Vincent and Ai Kobayashi as Electra.
The original series, based on a Sunrise project, aired in 1998 and remains one of those works each generation rediscovers. Its mix of science fiction, jazz, and space western hasn't aged at all, and these collaborations confirm it.
BEAMS MANGART and the art of wearing anime
BEAMS MANGART is a BEAMS project focused on developing manga, anime, and video game products with an approach closer to design than traditional merchandising. It's not the first time they've worked with a big franchise, but it is their first approach to Cowboy Bebop.
The choice of Nagato makes sense: his work as an art director fits the series' aesthetic, which always relied on carefully crafted visual compositions. The collages aren't simple image montages, but pieces that reconstruct the atmosphere of the Bebop and its crew.
For those who want to grab something from the collection, the window is short: barely twelve days. The skateboard pre-order, being made to order, may have different timelines, so it's worth checking the conditions at the official store.
Does this collection catch your eye, or would you rather BEAMS MANGART stick with the usual franchises? Let us know in the comments.
