Izakaya Ryōshukan manga arrives on Corona EX with unlimited reading for 400 yen
TO Books launches the comic adaptation on its digital platform, with new chapters from October 22
TO Books announced this October 22 the start of serialization of Izakaya Ryōshukan @COMIC on Corona EX, its digital manga distribution platform. The work begins with the publication of its first chapters and will be available within the service's catalog.
The story revolves around a protagonist who uses an enormous magical power to create unusual dishes and drinks: medicinal herb beer, orc meat gyōza, and ramen made with magical beast broth. What starts as a food business ends up attracting customers ranging from ordinary citizens to figures of enormous influence and deities, to the point that the fate of the world begins to depend on what happens inside the establishment.
The announcement also previews an arc in which the protagonist and the children of an orphanage try to develop new dishes for the menu, until a group of thugs bursts into the place. The publisher gave no further details about the development of that plot or the exact schedule of the chapters.
A bet on the digital catalog
Corona EX operates on a monthly subscription model of 400 yen, taxes included. With that payment, readers can access all works published on the platform, from the first chapter to the most recent, without additional restrictions. The arrival of Izakaya Ryōshukan @COMIC joins a catalog that TO Books has been expanding with adaptations of its novels.
The publisher, based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has built much of its reputation on literary franchises that later made the leap to other formats. Honzuki no Gekokujō is perhaps the most representative case: the series entered the hall of fame of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! ranking and later became an anime. To that list are added titles such as Tearmoon Empire, Okashina Tensei and Saijaku Tamer wa Gomi Hiroi no Tabi o Hajimemashita, all with television adaptations.
The company also produces audiobooks, e-books, plays and films, although in this statement the focus is on the digital launch of the new manga.
The team behind the adaptation
TO Books' statement mentions Yamazaki Gō and Fuse Ryūta among the names associated with the work, although it does not specify the exact role of each in the adaptation. It also did not include statements from the authors or the responsible editor.
The platform already has a reference page available for the work, where the first chapter can be consulted and the rest of the content accessed via subscription. It was not confirmed whether the manga will have a print edition in the future or whether a translation outside Japan is planned.
