Spanish creator Oh_miau wins MANGA Plus Creators monthly award and debuts on Shonen Jump+

Spanish creator Oh_miau has won the gold prize in the Monthly Awards of MANGA Plus Creators by SHUEISHA with the one-shot ¡Se acerca una tormenta de verano!. The work comes out on October 21 at 00:00 on the Shonen Jump+ app, Shueisha announced.

It is the third time that a work submitted through the platform for foreign creators gets published on Shonen Jump+. The previous one was Little Monster, by NÉO, on May 21, 2026. What had not happened until now is a manga submitted in Spanish achieving it.

Oh_miau submitted the work in June 2026 through MANGA Plus Creators, the service the Japanese publisher has operated with Link-U Technologies since August 2022. It is aimed at creators outside Japan and accepts works in English and Spanish. Between August 2022 and September 2026, it has received more than 34,000 submitted works, totaling around 87,000 entries.

The gold prize includes one million yen and the right to publish. The Japanese version comes out on Shonen Jump+; the English and Spanish versions, on MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA. The same October 21, the site Jump Rookie! publishes an interview with the author to mark the debut.

A 21-year-old author who has been drawing since age 16

Oh_miau is 21 years old and started drawing manga at 16, around the same time he got into anime and manga. He publishes his stories and illustrations on social media and publishing platforms. In the interview accompanying the release, he explains that from the start he was driven by the urge to create his own stories.

His method for improving is straightforward: drawing. "Creating a story and drawing it is one of the most effective ways to learn to draw," he says. When a story comes to him, he feels the need to give it shape and forces himself to solve everything he does not know how to draw. He also analyzes why he likes or dislikes the stories he consumes, whether novels, manga, or films, and applies those conclusions to his own work.

Shueisha's verdict

The editor-in-chief of MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA, Shuhei Hosono, signs the official comment on the winning work. He notes the way the author portrays a moment of youth "poetically and dynamically" and how his drawing, with depth and personality, gives weight to the story. He mentions two scenes in particular: the rooftop one, for its sense of openness, and the run in the rain, for its force.

"It may not be very 'Jump style,' but it is an outstanding expression that shows the possibilities of manga," Hosono says.

The statement points to a line the publisher keeps repeating: opening Shonen Jump+ to creators outside Japan and distributing their works worldwide.
