Dead Account volume 17 releases on December 16

The manga Dead Account, by Shizuka Watanabe, continues its run in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket and now has a date for its next volume. Volume 17 will go on sale on December 16, 2026.

The publisher has not yet revealed the official synopsis for the volume, but the story's progress leaves us on edge. The plot revolves around a plan by Amaguro to resurrect a vengeful spirit of catastrophic level, the Gushion Gaki, whom the protagonists had already faced before.

To stop it, Yaden and Yagen lead a team that infiltrates the enemy base. There, the most dangerous transformation group to date awaits them: the Tenshigara. And as the battles intensify on several fronts, Sōji's spiritual power undergoes a change unlike anything seen so far.

An exorcist with a peculiar past

Dead Account introduces us to Sōji Enjō, better known as "Abura Ringo," a 15-year-old streamer who has become famous through controversial and destructive videos. His public persona is that of a hopeless troublemaker, but the reality is quite different.

Behind that facade is an older brother who adores his little sister and has a weakness for flan. The videos that cause such a stir are simply his way of paying for the girl's extremely expensive medical treatment, as she suffers from a serious illness.

He is clear about it: even if everyone hates him, as long as his sister is healthy, he is happy. Until something begins to change in her and his world is shaken completely.

A supernatural action manga in top form

Watanabe's work has been hooking Magazine Pocket readers for a while with its mix of exorcist action and a protagonist who breaks the mold. He is not the typical noble hero: he is a kid with a terrible public image, a strong reason to keep it, and a knack for getting into trouble that never lets up.

The announcement of volume 17 comes without further details for now, something common in this series when there are still weeks to go before the release. We will have to wait for Kodansha to publish the cover and the final synopsis.

Still, the date is set: December 16, just in time to gift it to whoever is already on volume 16.
