Da Song Miaomiao Zhi season 3 arrives on October 28 with a leap to 3D
The 16-episode, 5-minute AIGC series keeps the daily life of Jiukan and Lu Yong and debuts a three-dimensional aesthetic.
The third season of Da Song Miaomiao Zhi premieres on October 28, 2026. It is announced by the network products department of Jiangsu Radio and Television, the Shanghai Senyu Culture Media animation team, and the Yangtze River Delta digital audiovisual industry base in Yancheng. The series keeps its format of 16 five-minute episodes and its view of the Song dynasty through the eyes of a cat.
The project is among the priority animation programs of China's National Radio and Television Administration. The new batch follows Jiukan, the modern cat, and Lu Yong, the scholar of the era, across the four seasons. Each chapter presents an independent everyday situation and retains the educational section "Miaomiao Classroom of the Great Song," in which the protagonists share facts about life in the dynasty.
The big technical novelty is in the visuals. The first two seasons relied on hand-drawn 2D animation. Now the series introduces 3D visual effects and uses AIGC technology for scene rendering, characters, and lighting calculations. According to the statement, spatial depth and dynamism gain weight, and street markets, gardens, and festive scenes become more detailed.
A journey through the four seasons
The seasonal structure organizes the 16 chapters. In spring, Jiukan works as a delivery courier, gets lost, and ends up lifting Wanguan with a giant kite. In summer, a sonic-wave mosquito repellent attracts a cloud of bats, and effervescent candies turn the teacher into a breakdancer. In autumn, the cat poses as a weather fortune teller and fails, and his limited-edition figure business overflows. In winter, a vacuum cleaner swallows classmates' clothes, and New Year's Eve ends amid firecrackers and laughter.
The setting draws on the culture of the Jiangsu region. The cobbled street of Zhuxi Old Town and the ancient salt flats share the frame with salt boats unloading and fishermen with cormorants. Local cuisine also appears: white fish from the Huai River, Wuyou marinated crab, snails in wine, and sugar doughnuts, all products tied to the area's intangible heritage.
An animated cat holds a megaphone in a traditional Chinese-style setting with snow. The production company defines the result as a "new national style" aesthetic of the Song dynasty. The stated goal is to move from watching the animation to interacting with that culture. To that end, they update Xiao Jiu, the intelligent agent derived from the series, and present the project as a replicable model of fusion between microdrama and cultural tourism.
The series will be available starting October 28, 2026. No specific broadcast platform is detailed in the announcement.
