Alberto Angela makes his Lucca Comics & Games debut with a talk about history

Alberto Angela is coming to Lucca Comics & Games for the first time. The paleontologist and Italian science communicator will take part in a talk with Gianluca Gazzoli on October 31 at the Teatro del Giglio Giacomo Puccini in Lucca.

The event runs from 4 to 5 p.m. The theme of the talk is "Exploring is adventure," and it centers on historical storytelling and science communication. The starting point will be his book Caesar: The Eternal Conquest, published by Mondadori.

Angela is a familiar face to anyone who follows Italian documentaries and history programs. He studied at Harvard, Columbia, and UCLA, and spent more than ten years on excavations related to human origins in Italy, Africa, and Asia. He has also worked as a journalist and hosted programs on Rai.

His work spans history, art, and science, and several of his books have been translated into multiple languages.

History as adventure at a comics festival

It makes sense for a communicator like Angela to take the stage at Lucca Comics & Games. The Italian festival doesn't just celebrate manga, comics, and video games: it also opens space for narrative in other formats. The talk frames science communication as a way to turn knowledge into an experience that feels close and current.

The book on Julius Caesar serves as an excuse to talk about how history is told and why certain figures still draw audiences centuries later. It's an approach that connects with the interest historical stories spark in anime and manga, from works set in Rome to series that reinterpret real people.

Angela's appearance is one of the activities at the 2026 edition of the festival, held in Lucca. The event brings together publishers, creators, and fans from around the world every year, and adds names from outside the usual comics circuit.
